MOSSEL BAY NEWS – The Mossel Bay Correctional Youth Centre honoured the members of their soccer club at an informal awards event on Thursday 17 May.

Various trophies were handed out by DCS Area Commissioner, Mrs Booi and other dignataries attending the event.

MOSSEL BAY NEWS – Put a number of ladies (and one gentleman) on board a ship, lure them with pink cocktails and mix an amazing cabaret star into the equation and you have the recipe for a stunning ladies night.

That is exactly what happened on board the Seven Seas when more than 50 ladies boarded for an evening of entertainment and fun. And all the funds went to the Relay For Life that will be held at the ATKV amphi theatre in Hartenbos on 3 and 4 November.

Shirley Coetzee from Team Advertiser had the brilliant idea of treating the ladies on a cruise and to use this as a fundraiser.

Lindie Edwards from the Seven Seas immediately came to the party and gave the ladies a steal of a price. For less than R100 they had a sunset cruise around Seal Island, a welcome sherry on arrival and a side splitting cabaret on arrival back in port.

After the snacks and cocktails a number of the ladies took out their nail scissors and took part in the tape derby. Each “filly” had to cut along a five metre ribbon at the speed of lighting and if they cut through the ribbon, they were disqualified. The winners walked away with stunning hampers.

Cornelle Carstens, an exceptionally versatile cabaret star treated the guests on a “On the Rocks” trilogy that she wrote herself and also performed on board. “On the rocks have many meanings and can refer to a drink, a relationship as well as a number of other subjects” she told the Advertiser.

A big word of thanks to Shirley and her team Jeneane, Lynette, Wanda and Cornelle for the lovely ladies night.

VIA has officially introduced the AMOS-3002 ultra-compact system that promises to withstand extreme temperatures, shocks and vibration.

Called VIA AMOS-3002, the new computer is to be employed in telematics, digital signage, kiosks, in-vehicle control, machine to machine controller applications and various other embedded scenarios.

In order to maximize its chances of scoring deals, VIA gave the system a sturdy case too. It also made it so that no fans are needed to keep things cool.

“The VIA AMOS-3002 advances the ultra compact AMOS series systems, delivering fanless dual core computing and advanced multimedia capabilities,” said Epan Wu, head of the VIA embedded platform division, VIA Technologies, Inc.

“The superior versatility and reliable compact design of the VIA AMOS-3002 makes it ideal for a diversified range of embedded applications.”

Spec-wise, there is a VIA EPIA-P900 Pico-ITX motherboard on the inside, bearing an Eden X2 dual-core processor.

This CPU has a clock speed of 1.0 GHz, which might seem low until one remembers that embedded applications don’t really need much prowess in the first place.

Also, the VIA VX900H media system processor is present as well, complete with hardware acceleration for MPEG-2, WVM9 and H.264 codecs.

What’s more, for connectivity and I/O, the AMOS-3002 boasts a native HDMI output, six USB ports (two lockable), a DIO port, one VGA, line-in/out, two COM ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet and optional Wi-Fi and 3G via a Mini PCI Express expansion slot.

Finally, a stronger configuration can be ordered, with a VIA EPIA-P830 motherboard and a 1.0 GHz Nano E-Series CPU.

The default AMOS-3002 is certified for -20 to 60 degrees C, vibration tolerance of up to 5Grms and a shock tolerance of up to 50G. The higher-end configuration handles -20 to 70 degrees C. Unfortunately, we can’t seem to find any prices but, then again, they aren’t relevant to us, consumers, anyway.

MOSSEL BAY NEWS – The Mossel Bay Municipality apologises to customers that were affected by the recent power interruptions in the Little Brak River, Reebok and Tergniet areas.

According to the Municipality, the interruptions were caused by a defective relay and protection circuit on a 22 kV switchgear at a substation outside Power Town. The fault was of an intermittent nature and as the switchgear in question is located upstream on the 22kV network, the problem could unfortunately not be detected easily and rectified earlier, without interrupting the entire area.

The Municipality says that the problems in the area appear to be related to the age of the electrical infrastructure, which dates back to the days of the old Great Brak River municipality. Because the interruptions are of an intermittent nature, it is very difficult to pinpoint the problem or problems. They can, for example, be caused by animals bumping against poles or other forms of natural interference.

The Municipality has, however, adopted a master plan for replacing aged infrastructure and an amount of R7-million has been included in the Municipality’s 2012/2013 capital budget for the construction of a new substation in the area. This is expected to bring about a big improvement in the electricity supply situation in the Midbrak area.

As most experts said before, AMD seems to be winning the Fusion bet. We were able to write about some of AMD’s achievements during the last year and we have another win to report today.

Llano and Brazos already conquered 43% of the desktop market although AMD doesn’t have a superior x86 CPU in any price range.

The ultrathin / ultralight / ultrabook bet seems to be leaning also towards the green side.

When we come to Diablo III and we mention that its predecessor was and still is one of the most popular games of the last decade, the question of what new CPU runs the game better naturally pops up.

There are many Diablo II players out there that did not really see any reason to upgrade their systems for the work they were doing, nor for browsing or music and movie playback.

When given the opportunity and reason to upgrade, what would be the most advantageous solution, Trinity or Ivy Bridge? Well, if Diablo III is the tool to measure the two CPUs, Intel’s Ivy Bridge comes over 40% behind today’s winner, AMD’s Trinity.

The hardware experts from legitreview.com have managed to test an Intel Ivy Bridge based laptop against AMD’s reference Trinity mobile platform.

When running the game in FullHD, Trinity achieves 48% better scores in Blizzard’s new game.

Lowering the resolution to 1280 x 720, the lineup doesn’t change: AMD’s Trinity is still 40% faster than Ivy Bridge despite the much more modest x86 performance.

The second most important fact of this test was that not only does AMD offer much better performance despite the “older” 32 nm technology and the x86 handicap, but the fact that the game is practically unplayable with Intel’s Ivy Bridge.

Managing only 17 FPS, Intel’s Ivy Bridge is clearly not acceptable for FullHD high-quality Diablo III game play.

When comparing the price, we’ll only mention that the Core i7-3920XM tested against AMD’s platform is an Extreme Edition Intel CPU that works at 2900 MHz default frequency.

It can clock up to 3800 GHz when only one thread requires maximum performance, has a huge 8 MB level 3 cache and a 55 watts TDP and yes, it is extremely expensive.

At 1096 USD, it costs more than Nvidia’s GTX 690 dual GPU card and this is the price for the mobile CPU alone, not the whole laptop.

If getting out the best CPU / APU for Diablo III was a bet, AMD has clearly won this one.

Anke het ‘die manne in haar lewe’ aan die einde van April op ‘n jaguitstappie na die Bethulie distrik, naby die Gariepdam, vergesel toe sy haar eerste bok, ‘n Blesbok, met ‘n volmaakte hartskoot op 80m geskiet het.

Soos enige jagter van formaat het sy daarop aangedring om soos tradisie dit wil hê, as jy jou eerste bok skiet, om bloedstrepe op jou gesig te kry.

Die ‘jag-gogga’ het haar behoorlik gebyt want die volgende dag het sy ‘n Springbok geskiet. Beide bokke is onder toesig en beheer van pa Chris, met sy 222 geweer geskiet.
